UPSC Current Affairs: Prelims Integration

Current Affairs: Prelims Integration

Current affairs become more useful when connected to static concepts. This lesson provides a method for converting news into Prelims-ready revision.

The Integration Method

  1. Identify the news event or institution.
  2. Find the underlying static topic: polity, economy, geography, environment, science or international relations.
  3. Extract only exam-relevant facts.
  4. Create one-line revision notes and possible MCQs.
  5. Revise the topic again after spaced intervals.

What to Extract

  • Constitutional provisions, laws and institutions.
  • Locations, species, rivers, minerals and geographical features.
  • Economic indicators, policy terms and institutions.
  • Scientific concepts, missions and applications.
  • International organisations, agreements and important groupings.

Daily Practice

For every important news item, ask: What is it? Why is it in news? Where is it? Which static topic does it connect to? What fact could become an MCQ?
