Acadvik Daily Current Affairs Capsule — 22 September 2026
Exam focus: UPSC • RAS • Banking • SSC • Railway
1. Defence — Indigenous tank APUs
On 21 September, the Ministry of Defence signed a ₹586 crore contract with Accurate Industrial Controls Pvt Ltd for Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) for T-72 and T-90 tanks. The APUs provide an alternate source of electrical power for fire-control, firing, gun-stabilisation and other tank systems. The procurement is an example of indigenisation and the Make-II route.
Remember: APU = Auxiliary Power Unit; Make-II is an industry-funded prototype-development route under the defence procurement framework.
2. Rajasthan — Exercise Tarang Shakti 2026
The Indian Air Force has announced the second edition of Exercise Tarang Shakti, scheduled at Jodhpur, Rajasthan, from 26 September to 12 October 2026. It is a multinational air exercise focused on interoperability, tactical training and cooperation among participating air forces.
3. Nuclear Energy — RAPP-8
NPCIL began initial fuel loading at Unit 8 of the Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP) at Rawatbhata. RAPP-8 is a 700 MWe indigenous Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR). Initial fuel loading precedes the stages leading towards first criticality and power generation.
4. Space — EOS-05
ISRO’s GSLV-F17 successfully placed EOS-05 into a sub-geosynchronous transfer orbit on 29 August 2026. EOS-05 is India’s first imaging satellite from geosynchronous orbit. Its planned orbit-raising manoeuvres were successfully completed in early September.
5. Banking — Proposed bank strike
The Finance Ministry has asked public-sector banks and regional rural banks to maintain service continuity and adequate ATM cash during the proposed 28–30 September 2026 bank-union strike. The timing is significant because 30 September is the half-yearly financial-closing date. Digital banking services are expected to continue, although physical and clearing-related services may be affected.
6. Monsoon — Withdrawal from Rajasthan
The Southwest Monsoon has begun withdrawing from west Rajasthan, close to the climatological normal. IMD reporting also highlights significant rainfall deficits across parts of India, making the monsoon’s spatial and temporal distribution an important geography and environment topic.
7. Tea sector — UPASI centenary
Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan addressed the centenary conference of the UPASI Tea Research Foundation at Coonoor, The Nilgiris, on 21 September. He stressed research, modernisation, branding and value addition. The Foundation traces its origins to October 1926.
8. National Film Awards
