UPSC Prelims Revision Strategy: How to Consolidate Before the Exam
· admin
Revision becomes more important as the UPSC Prelims examination approaches. The objective is to consolidate what you know, identify weak areas and improve decision-making under time pressure.
Make a revision inventory
List subjects and divide them into strong, moderate and weak areas. Give additional revision time to topics where mistakes are frequent.
Prioritise PYQs
Revisit previous-year questions and note recurring concepts, wording patterns and common traps. Do not simply memorise answer choices.
Use short revision sheets
Create compact notes for polity articles, important institutions, geography facts, environment concepts, economy terminology and other high-value areas relevant to your syllabus.
Practise elimination
When attempting MCQs, practise identifying clearly incorrect options and distinguishing between what you know and what you are merely guessing. Your strategy must also respect the examination’s current marking rules.
Analyse mocks
Record attempted, correct, incorrect and skipped questions. Categorise errors and revise the underlying topic.
Final phase
Avoid uncontrolled resource expansion. Consolidate your notes, revise PYQs and use realistic timed tests. Verify the latest official notification before the examination.
