Police Exams Syllabus and Exam Scheme 2026 — Original Acadvik Guide

Police recruitment is conducted by state police departments, state public service commissions, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and UPSC for different posts. Constable, Sub-Inspector (SI), SSC GD Constable and CAPF Assistant Commandant are separate recruitments. Written-test subjects overlap, but marks, physical standards, qualifying rules and selection stages vary.

Important: this guide gives an original study framework across major routes. Always use the current official advertisement for eligibility, age, reservation, syllabus, physical measurements, test timings and medical rules. The Rajasthan Police and RPSC links below are especially relevant for candidates preparing in Rajasthan.

2. Exam scheme: know the exact route

SSC GD Constable

The commonly used CBE structure contains 80 objective questions for 160 marks in 60 minutes, split across General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Knowledge and General Awareness, Elementary Mathematics, and English/Hindi. The current notice specifies the exact question distribution, negative marking and language options. Shortlisted candidates proceed to PET/PST, medical examination and document verification under the recruitment rules.

SSC CPO Sub-Inspector

  • Paper-I: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Knowledge and General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension; commonly 200 questions for 200 marks in two hours.
  • PET/PST: qualifying physical standards/efficiency tests, with requirements determined by the notification and applicable category/gender rules.
  • Paper-II: English Language and Comprehension, commonly 200 questions for 200 marks in two hours.
  • Further stages: medical examination and document verification as notified.

State Police Constable and SI

There is no single all-India state-police exam pattern. A state may test general knowledge, state history/geography, Constitution, law, reasoning, arithmetic, language, computer knowledge or other topics. Physical tests may be qualifying or scored. Rajasthan SI has its own RPSC scheme; Rajasthan Constable recruitment has a separate police department notification. Do not mix their marks or physical standards.

UPSC CAPF Assistant Commandant

Paper Content Marks Duration
Paper I General Ability and Intelligence (objective) 250 2 hours
Paper II General Studies, Essay and Comprehension (descriptive) 200 3 hours
Interview/Personality Test Personality and suitability 150 As notified

CAPF Paper II includes essay and language/comprehension tasks as prescribed. Negative marking applies to the objective paper under UPSC rules; confirm the current CAPF notification.

  • Analogy, classification, similarities/differences and series.
  • Coding-decoding, alphanumeric sequences and symbol operations.

  • Percentages, ratio/proportion, averages and ages.
  • Profit/loss, discount, simple/compound interest and basic financial arithmetic.
  • Time and work, pipes/cisterns, speed/time/distance, trains and boats where included.
  • Mensuration, basic geometry and elementary trigonometry at the level prescribed.

7. Rajasthan Police Constable and RPSC SI focus

  • Integration of Rajasthan, political awakening and social reform.
  • Forts, monuments, architecture, paintings, handicrafts and literature.

RPSC SI-specific note

The RPSC SI/Platoon Commander 2025 scheme has separate General Hindi and General Knowledge/General Science papers, each of 200 marks and two hours, as specified in the recruitment scheme. Its syllabus includes Rajasthan history/culture, Indian history, geography, polity, economy, science and current issues. Check the linked RPSC syllabus for the exact topics and any later corrigendum. Rajasthan Constable uses a separate recruitment notice and should not be assigned the SI paper scheme.

8. PET, PST, medical and document verification

  • PST: height, chest (where applicable), weight and other measurements are determined by the post, gender, category and recruitment rules.
  • PET: running, long jump, high jump or other events vary by recruitment. Some tests are qualifying; others may carry marks.
  • Medical examination: eyesight, hearing, general health and role-specific fitness standards apply.
  • Document verification: keep educational certificates, identity, domicile, category and other documents consistent with the application.

Start conditioning gradually and practise the actual event only after checking the applicable standards. Avoid unsafe dehydration, crash weight loss or sudden high-volume training.
